What’s New in the Pro Max?
The Pro Max isn’t just a name change; it brings several key upgrades:
- Processor: Upgraded from the Allwinner H616 to the more powerful H618.
- Android Version: Now runs on Android 12 (up from Android 10).
- Remote Control: Completely redesigned. The new remote is a major highlight, offering a premium feel comparable to high-end TV remotes, with features like voice control and an air mouse.
- Internal Storage: Doubled from 64GB to 128GB.
- Tuner: The built-in satellite (DVB-S2/S2X) tuner has been upgraded, resulting in faster channel switching speeds.
Key Features & Performance
Hybrid Functionality:
This is a hybrid Android TV box with a built-in 4K satellite tuner. It seamlessly integrates satellite TV with the Android experience, which is uncommon as Google typically discourages this combination. You can use it for:
- Satellite TV: Watch and record (with external storage) 4K satellite channels.
- Internet TV: Comes with Hiremkon’s own IPTV service (free for one year, extendable). You can also install other third-party IPTV services.
- Streaming Apps: Use apps like YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, and more.
Design & Ports:
- Ports: HDMI output, 100Mbps Ethernet, Optical audio out, two USB 2.0 ports, and the satellite tuner input.
- Notable Omissions: No USB 3.0 port, no AV1 codec support, and no AV port.
Software & User Experience:
- Interface: The custom launcher is highly customizable with large icons, making it very user-friendly, especially for those who primarily want to watch TV.
- Boot Options: You can set the device to boot directly into a specific app (e.g., the satellite tuner, YouTube, or Netflix).
- Dual App Stores: It features both the official Google Play Store and Hiremkon’s own app store, which contains optimized and hard-to-find apps.
- DRM & Streaming Limitations: Due to the built-in tuner, it uses a modified Widevine L1 level. This means Netflix is limited to 1080p. For the best experience with streaming apps, it’s recommended to update them only through Hiremkon’s store, not the Play Store. Amazon Prime Video can sometimes stream in 4K.
